Pwede ring “biyaya”. Alam nyo ‘yong kasabihang ‘pag umuulan, may pinagpapala. Tulad ng tigang na lupa na pinaiinom ng ulan, maaaring ang mga luhang nai-IYAK mo tuwing gabing patay ang ilaw, ang magbigay ng liwanag at direksyon sa buhay mo.

Palaging ginigising ang isip ko ng kasabihang ito: “Loneliness is not the absence of affection, but the absence of direction.”

When you lost the map, you’ve got to visit the bookstore and buy a new one.Life’s conveniences offer fast solution.

Sana lang ang “mapang” kailangan ko’y sa bookstore lang mahahanap.

CHESSNOTES

Posted by carissabongalosa in Philosophy, wicmtwitm  Tagged

Nothing’s wrong about yearning for security, but making all decisions solely out of it is simply futile.

Playing chess as early as seven taught me to castle my king before attempting any attack. I won most of my games then by HIDING. I learned that the best way to avoid checkmates is to hide well. My elementary coach honed my skill in hiding and waiting when he introduced a traditional line of opening called Pirc Defense. He said Kasparov lost in a game because of it. I’ve known Kasparov as a great risk-taker, so I concluded: “evade risks, safety first.”

No matter how dire, and rigid my training was in HIDING- I still lose whenever I meet aggressive players. You cannot always win by defense. The element of fun and excitement is gone when all you think of is protecting your KING or other major pieces. You’ll never enjoy the game when all you do is worry about your contender’s next attack.

When I met the Rivas (Brothers and sister who are experts at gambits!), the youngest told me: “Rarely do players win by a single strategy, you don’t win by simply waiting, hiding nor chasing.” He even adds, “PIRC defense is a coward’s opening, modify it a bit or try a variety of openings and choose which suits your overall gameplan.”

PERHAPS, He’s right.

hmmmm.. Life, like chess, is full of traps and zaps, so know when to hide, chase, wait, bait and mate(?)… Know also that it takes several trial games to master the right mix of these actions.

C for…

Posted by carissabongalosa in Learning about MYSELF, wicmtwitm  Tagged

Every time I enter an English classroom, I’m prompted to introduce myself using my name’s initials. Well, I should be thankful to have a word-friendly initial so I could easily think of adjectives to describe me.

Perhaps we can apply the same mode of description to each experience we have- be it gloomy or gay, exciting or bland, or lesson we need to learn.. Well, let’s start the game:

C if FOR…

Comfort (unexpected) from friends who care, who truly care!

Chance given by superiors, by colleagues, by co-workers, by friends, by sisters, by people I’ve hurt, by every one I wronged.

Charity from love ones - either friends, relatives and non-relatives (?).

Chastisement from the ONE who sees everything and who judges knowingly.

Character which I need to imprint into my soul.

Crap I need to throw or vomit… or by any means, get rid of.

Carelessness I have to completely eliminate… in words, and in deeds.

Clarity in expressing my views and wants to avoid misinterpretations.

Calmness and Composure as my shield to unsettling news, circumstances even tragedies.

Curiosity in things that will help me improve immensely.

Critical-thinking for decision-making.

Conciseness in writing… as well as speaking.

Now I failed to comply to my last want- to be concise. It’s hard to say things in condensed form esp. if you’re proving how awesome the Letter C is. hehe.. If you’ve got a name with a “C” as initial, REJOICE and welcome to an Adjective-rich initial club..

hehe… here I go again, lengthy as always.

GTG.. office is waiting.

Why a Change of Theme?

Posted by carissabongalosa in Baggage, Learning about MYSELF, Philosophy, Poetry  Tagged

Life’s filled with alterations,

It’s a source of inspiration,

To move ahead to the next phase,

And forget the paths you’ve taken.

Time posed this challenge,

To keep moving forward,

It doesn’t mean giving up,

It only means letting go.

Some dreams are not for you,

It takes several reflections,

The highest minds take action,

The average just think them through.

Do I consider myself an excellent thinker?

Far from it! It took me months to realize.

And even a year to take action,

Let this be my moving force-

An impetus for growth.
